Emily Victoria Marie Bland (born 1988) is a British-French painter, living and working in Berlin. The focus of her work is the comprehension of abstraction. Inspired by gradients, structures and contradictions she discovers in her surroundings, she seeks to balance discordance whilst forming dialogues between objects.
External influences arouse energy and affect the conversation, not only within the canvas but also with the viewer.
Bland’s recent works combine her distinct style of contemporary abstract painting with a new playful approach to mark making. This recent shift has allowed for further depth and investigation, highlighting the interplay between sharp design and lyrical abstraction.
